Trainee Recruitment Guide for Corporate Human Resources Professionals

1. Candidate selection for participation in The Leadership Connection service:
Your candidate recruitment efforts are perhaps the most critical predictor of our ability to strengthen nonprofit boards. Your success in recruiting the right candidates will also provide a qualified executive with an incredible opportunity to hone their leadership skills, broaden their professional networks and have a rewarding, company-facilitated experience.

2. Ideal candidates will:
Work well in groups and have good interpersonal skills;
Possess leadership skills including vision, strategic thinking and expertise in field;
Be interested in broadening personal involvement in the community;
Be ready to serve on a nonprofit board; and,
Be willing and able to dedicate two years of nonprofit board service.

3. What are some other criteria to consider in identifying a great candidate?

A. Professional experience
There is specific demand for candidates with expertise and experience in marketing, finances, law, fundraising, event planning and IT.

B. Diversity
Most boards are not as diverse as they'd like to be with regard to ethnicity, race, age and gender.
